Deaubonne
Concept Project
Can Graphic Design help solve problems of sustainability?
This was a project working towards the fifth of the Sustainable Development Goals, gender equality. The idea of Deaubonne came from looking at how women’s life-long experiences of being judged by their appearance affect how they live and how they are seen when taking on different tasks in life. Feminism and beauty is a big and complex topic, I believe the makeup industry plays a big role in making a difference.
I created a makeup brand focusing on creativity and diversity rather than perfection and normative beauty.
Design was developed to dissociate from the normative visual language competitors in the field use. Features such as bright colors and bold typefaces were exchanged with b/w and clean surfaces to let the color and the information of the actual product stand out. Usage of real pictures gave opportunity to show authenticity and diversity.
